Federico Pietrella, (Rome, born 1973), lives and works between Rome and Berlin.

Federico Pietrella’s research focuses mainly
on the relationship between the construction of the image and the modes to perceive it. The artist works with a seemingly traditional pictorial approach, turning his attention to subjects and iconographies typical of the history of art such as portraits, landscapes and still lifes. These images all belong to
a kind of visual diary of the artist, which he created through photography. However, their method of selection and the unusual techniques with which they are reworked (date stamps, alkyd paint, silicone) end up modifying the perception of the image itself, with a progressive loss of the figurative plane in favour of a more abstract, suspended and dilated poetic dimension.
